The Nesting Instinct

Closets cleaned out?  Check.

Bathroom drawers organized?  Check.

Cookbooks alphabetized?  Well, not quite.  Not yet anyway.

That's just some of what's been going on at our house.  But it's not spring cleaning.  Rather someone's nesting at our house.  (It's me.)

The nesting instinct, of course, occurs in many animals as well as humans.  In a world that has become so technologically advanced, there's something very basic and refreshing to me about a mother's instinct to prepare for her baby.

I've been nesting since March in anticipation of Baby Sage, organizing everything I can get my hands on.  I cleaned out my closet so thoroughly that I think my husband has more clothes hanging now that I do.

I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy.  But he just goes along with everything and lets me do my organizing.  I was even mowing the grass for awhile, until my OB (and my husband) advised me not to.

It's even spilled over to Cloud 9.  I guess when I'm at work I feel like I need to be getting things ready, too.  So I've cleaned out catalogs and paperwork and organized back stock.  It looks like a whole new stockroom back there!

I just fear I'm going to go into labor soon and want everything ready and clean!

I keep a list on the kitchen island of things I think of that need to be done before Baby Sage arrives.  I just hope I'm not forgetting anything.  Like defrosting our frost-free refrigerator?

Did you nest, or are you nesting?  What are some of the things you cleaned or organized?
